…fue lo que dijo el oficial tras hacer la U, prender sus luces y obligarme a detenerme al lado de la carretera. Que dolor… la primera multa. Es difícil a veces mantener la velocidad en el límite cuando la carretera se presta para más, pero normalmente es fácil estar pendiente de los policías…. Creo que me fallo la táctica ya que estaba pendiente del paisaje de tormenta que me tenia entre impresionado (por la belleza) y asustado (por la posible tormenta). Pero bueno, como dijo el policía al final con cierto aire de risa luego de que le pidiera que me dejara tomar una foto: a bajarle a la velocidad, manejar con cuidado y disfrutar el viaje. Hay que verlo como cosas del viaje.
Esto ocurrió en la vía costera desde Houston/Galveston hacia Lafayette, bonita ruta con un par de feries, cantidades de agua en lagos, manglares y océano, y un paisaje un poco desolador ya que revela todavía un aire de destrucción: las huellas que dejo Katrina. En términos generales, un buen día de viaje, con un clima excelente que nunca termino en tormenta como llegué a pensar al ver la nube negra más grande que tal vez yo haya visto.
El día anterior había al fin dejado Dallas, estaba como muy amañado con las buenas atenciones de mis amigos, pero bueno hay que seguir y sino no voy a llegar a ninguna parte. Esa noche la pase en Houston en la casa de mi amiga Mariana, una vueltita en la noche, una cervecitas y algo de comida fue lo que me quedo de Houston, mas un vistazo en la mañana mientras manejaba hacia Galveston.
Bueno, la segunda etapa rumbo a la florida esta pues en todo su apogeo. Vamos a ver cuanto dura, el clima esta bueno y la costa siempre llama para dejar las autopistas. Yo creo que para el próximo fin de semana probablemente ya este en Miami.

… is what the police officer told me after making a U turn, turn on his car lights and force me to stop on the side of the road. Painful… my first ticket. Sometimes is hard to keep the speed limit when the road invites to go faster, but normally is easy to spot the police… I guess my tactic failed since I was looking at a storm like landscape that had me somehow impressed (due to the beauty) and scared (due to the possible storm). But well, as the police officer told me at the end with a smile in his face after I asked him if I could take a picture: just slow down, drive safe and enjoy your trip: Is one more of those things that happen on road trips.
This happened in the coastal way the goes from Houston/Galveston to Lafayette, a nice route with a couple of ferries, tons of water in lakes, swamps and ocean, and a somehow sad landscape that reveals and air of destruction: the remains of Katrina. Overall, a good day of traveling, with a perfect climate that did not ended up in a storm as I thought when seeing the biggest black cloud I had ever seen.
The day before I had finally left Dallas, I was too happy there with my good friends, but well, I had to continue or I would not get anyplace. That night I stayed in Houston in my friends Mariana’s house, a short drive around town, a couple of beers and some good food is what I took from Houston, plus a quick look next morning from the road while I drove to Galveston.
Well, the second stage via Florida has started and is going. Lets see how long will it take, the weather is good and the coast roads always calls you to leave the Highways. I guess by next weekend I should be in Miami.
