...a fosy way!: 0700605 - Mexico DF :: 25 Millones de habitantes

Moverse entre 25 millones de habitantes donde la gran mayoría están de afán y las reglas de transito no se respetan a cabalidad se puede convertir en toda una odisea. La ciudad de México puede ser catalogada como caótica y desorganizada pero tengo que admitir que al menos en mi calidad de turista me ha parecido una ciudad bien acogedora y como las grandes capitales del mundo llenas de vida, actividad y cosas por conocer.

Llegar donde gente conocida es como ya lo he mencionado una agradable experiencia, especialmente cuando el que te recibe es uno de esos amigos con los que creciste andando por las calles de tu barrio, jugando fútbol, hablando bobadas, buscando peladitas, loquiando en los carros y creyendo que lo único importante en la vida son los amigos y que nunca se van a separar, todo obviamente acompañado de una que otra pelea, uno que otro daño y mas de un castigo por parte de tus padres que aunque no aceptan algunas de las actividades a las que tus amigos te inducen, los quieren tanto como a ti mismo. Pues Jimmy Zuluaga es uno de estos personajes y me esperaba con los brazos abiertos en ciudad de México junto con Erika su ahora esposa y amiga mía de mucho tiempo.

Sobra decir que las atenciones han sido excelentes, tures por la ciudad, comidas en todo tipo de restaurantes, uno que otro barcito, paseos por Teotihuacan y Xochimilco y un merecido descanso en miras a mi recorrido por el sur del país. Como dice Jimmy, no pude llegar en mejor momento, pues se estaban mudando y como buen huésped les ayude en la medida que el guayabo (resaca) me lo permitió después de una informal despedida que Jimmy y yo le dimos al viejo apartamento la noche anterior al trasteo, y todo por no tener que pasar de un apartamento a otro un par de botellas que ya estaban por acabarse!!

Las pirámides en Teotihuacan son impactantes y no puedo ya esperar para continuar conociendo las ruinas de las civilizaciones que habitaron el territorio sur de México y norte de centro América antes de la colonización española. La historia de estas culturas es infinitamente rica y probablemente requiera de años de estudio para poder entenderla aunque sea un poco. Esa imagen me quedo clara luego de visitar el museo de Antropología donde se puede admirar la magnitud de estas y el legado que han dejado.

La ciudad de Mexico esta llena de lugares impactantes y diferentes, los paseos en coloridas barcas llamadas trajineras en los canales de Xochimilco, el museo de Antropología, el paseo de la reforma, el Zocalo, la villa de Guadalupe, los mercados callejeros en el centro de la ciudad y el metro son algunos que ya he visitado y recomiendo a todo aquel que tenga la oportunidad de visitar esta metrópoli.

Manizales, mi ciudad natal es relativamente pequeña, 400 mil habitantes y círculos sociales pequeños donde todo el mundo conoce a todo el mundo. Por mucho tiempo he visto esto con ojo critico y algunas ideas tengo sobre las limitantes en apertura de mente y espíritu que estas pueden causar, pero una ventaja si he encontrado y esta es que un gran numero de Manizaleños han salido en busca de algo mas, algunos volverán, otros no, pero eso si harán de tus recorridos por el mundo caminos agradables a medida que te los encuentras por todas partes. Durante mis relatos son incontables la cantidad de encuentros que he tenido y procuro mencionarlos a todos por sus nombres como registro de este fenómeno que a muchos aterra. En ciudad de México y junto con Jimmy y Erika compartí una noche agradable con personajes que no veía hace rato: Papaya, Juliana Barreneche y su marido Alfonso (Mexicano), Juliana Ramírez y su esposo José Luis (Mexicano) y Carolina Palacio y su esposo Leonardo, también de Manizales.

Estaré pues otros días más disfrutando de la capital Mexicana y sus alrededores. El sur del país me espera con su historia maya, bella naturaleza, lindas playas y lo que espero sean unas agradables rutas.

Moving in between 25 million people where most of them are in a rush and the traffic rules are not respected completely can become quite a challenge. Mexico City can be catalogued as a chaotic city with lack of organization but I have to admit that at least in my role as a tourist I have found it to be a very cozy city that like all big capitals of the world is full of life, activities and things to know.

Arriving to people you know is like I have mentioned before a very grateful experience, especially when that who receives you is one of those friends you grew up with walking around in the streets of your neighborhood, playing soccer, talking stupid stuff, looking for girls, doing crazy things in your parent’s car and believing that the only important thing in life are your friends and that you will never separate, all obviously accompanied of a couple of fights, one or two bad experiences and more than one punishment by your parents that even though the did not accepted some of the activities your friends induced you to, they loved them almost as much as you. Well, Jimmy Zuluaga is one of these characters and was waiting for me in Mexico City with wide open arms along with his now wife Erika who has been a good friend of mine for a long time.

No need to mention the attentions have been excellent, tours around the city, dinners in all kind of restaurants, visits to a couple of bars, visits to Teotihuacan and Xochimilco and a well deserved rest looking forward to my route in the south of the country. As my friend Jimmy says, I could not have arrived in a better time, they were moving and as a good guest I am I helped them as much as the hangover allowed me to after an informal farewell we gave to the old apartment then night before the move, and all so just we did not have to move over a couple of bottles that were almost done!!

Teotihuacan’s pyramids are incredible and I can wait to keep visiting the ruins of multiple civilizations that inhabited the south Mexican territory and northern Central America before the Spanish colonization. The history of these cultures is infinitely rich and probably you would require multiple years of study to get to know them at least a little bit. This image is what I got after visiting the Anthropology museum where you can admire the magnitude of these and the legacy they have left behind.

Mexico city is full of great and different places, navigating in the colorful boats called “Trajineras” in Xochimilco, the Anthropology museum, the “Paseo de La Reforma”, the Zocalo, the “Villa de Guadalupe”, the street markets in the city centre and the subway are some of which I have visited and recommend to all of those who have the opportunity to visit this metropolis.

Manizales, my home town is relatively small, 400 thousands inhabitants and small social circles where everybody knows everybody. For a long time I have seen this with critic eye and I have some ideas about the limitations on mind and spirit openness that these can cause, but a great advantage I have found is that a big number of its people have left in search of something else, some will come back, some won’t, but for sure they will make your trips around the world very enjoyable as you go and meet them all over. During my narratives is becoming countless the amount of encounters I have had in this trip with people from my town and I try to mention them all by their names to keep a record of this phenomenon that impress so many. In Mexico City along with Jimmy and Erika I shared a very nice evening with some people I have not seen for a long time: Papaya, Juliana Barreneche and her husband Alfonso (Mexican), Juliana Ramirez and her husband Jose Luis (Mexican) and Carolina Palacio and her husband Leonardo, also from Manizales.

I will stay a couple more days enjoying the Mexican capital and its surroundings. The south of the country awaits with its Maya history, beautiful nature, nice beaches and what I hope a lot, enjoyable routes.
